Creation
of IBA - International Bamboo
Association - will unite all national associations. ABS
- American Bamboo Society -, which editor is George
Shor, possess a bamboo discussion group in Internet, in
english. Some of their members are taking over an ambitious
project, BIM - Bamboo Identification
Manual -, online tool designed to help bamboo species identification.
EBS - European Bamboo Society
- is similar to the american, with several chapters. In Austrália
the Bamboo Society of Australia
unite many australian enthusiasts. Bamboo
Plantations internet discussion group has several
specialists exchanging information and questions.
In South
America we have ECUABAMBU in
Ecuador, with national deputy Cecília Calderón
as president, and with the National Bamboo Project,
for popular habitational, industrial and commercial purposes.
In Colombia there is the Sociedad Colombiana
de Bambú, presided by Dr. Ximena Londoño
- taxonomist - and also with a national project. In Central
America, Costa Rica counts on FUNBAMBU,
foundayion created to manage their national bamboo project.
There is also AMEB - Associación
Mexicana de Bambú - and ASOBAMBU
- of Guatemala.
Asia
has national societies in
India, China, Japan and Philipines.
In China there is the China Bamboo
Research Center. Asia is the main focus of INBAR
- International Network for Bamboo and Rattan -, research
and managing institute for development od social programs that
use bamboo and rattan. There is many country members in
Ásia, Europe and America.
In Brasil
the ABMTENC research alternative
construction materials, with bamboo in projection. At PUC-RJ,
Dr. Khosrow Ghavami, engeneer, researches bamboo aplications
since 70's, and is the ABMTENC
founder and president. Prof. Luis Mendes Ripper, from
Art and Design Department, co-ordenates LOTDP
- Laboratório Oficina de Desenvolvimento de Protótipos
-, where bamboo is used in object and structures. Prof. Tarciso
Filgueiras - botanist -, at Brasília, researches
grasses, including bamboo. Edson Sartori and Rubens Cardoso,
from Campo Grande - MS, realize seminaires and constructions
with bamboo. At IAC - Instituto Agronômico
de Campinas -, Prof. Anizio Azzini and Prof. Antônio
de Barros Salgado study bamboo aplications.
Events
and courses about bamboo occur regularly in many countries
of the world.
