vehicles have already been made of bamboo. In Asia (India,
China, Bali, Vietnam, ...) and south-americans (Colombia
and Ecuador) bamboo boat has been used for thousand of years.
Alberto Santos Dummont, brasileiro inventor, was
the first man to fly in machine that take over with its
own efforts. His next studies let him construct "Demoiselle"
series planes, with light bamboo structures. He had already
flyed a bamboo dirigible. |

Researchers
construct bykes, cars and planes with bamboo. The plant
is used for its strengh and lightness, very important
on human powered vehicles, as an example.

Native men from pacific probably used bamboo to surf
sea waves. At present many people research bamboo as a substitue
to fiber glass, not a responsible material. One aplication
is surfboards. Gary Young's results are exciting:
bamboo floats and has better strengh than
fiber glass. Professional surfers are testing this surfboards
and saying that they are great, specially for aerial maneuvers
(like Sunny Garcia). |
