Dendrocalamus
genus is originated at Asia, and we find many Dendrocalamus
asper bamboo species at Rio de Janeiro - RJ - and
in Campo Grande - MS. This species is called "bambu-balde"
(bucket bamboo), for its thickness. May reach 25 cms in diameter
and about 25 meters high. Its shoots are edible, and eaten in
Asia. When young these bamboos show a rough brown fluff, almost
golden. The biggest bamboo of all are the one of Dendrocalamus
giganteus species.

| Bamboos
from Guadua genus have crucial role in Ecuador and
Colombia economy . It is known by natives
for at least 5000 years. Before included in Bambusa genus,
this american native bamboo has a species with a tremendous
resistance, Guadua angustifolia, being used as construction
material. Most distinguishing characteristic are the white
nodes. In Brazil, according to Dra. Londoño,
there is great Guadua natural forests in Amazon, but we
also find Guaduas in many brazilian states. |
