Boiling
A very used
method of treating bamboo is through boiling. Depending on climate
and species 15 to 60 minutes are used. Diesel helps getting
sugar out. A ten percent caustic soda in water is also a good
method, boiling for 15 minutes.
Chemical treatment
Boric acid
is the main chemical used on bamboo. You may use a ready product
(as BORAX) or prepare yourself, as suggested by Johan Van Lengen:
